Brandon Sheppard Returns to MARS Victory Lane

Back to the WoO Grind in Indiana this Coming Weekend

By Ben Shelton

NEW BERLIN, Ill. (05/31/21) – Brandon Sheppard enjoyed a fun and successful Memorial Day weekend behind the wheel of his family-owned Dennis G. Woodworth Attorney at Law No. B5 Valvoline/ The Goddard School for Early Childhood Development/ Pro Power Racing Engines/ Rocket Chassis Super Late Model.

Sheppard began his extended holiday weekend of racing with a trio of Top-4 finishes in the Lucas Oil Show-Me 100 extravaganzas at Lucas Oil Speedway before wrapping up four races in three days with a $5,000 Mid America Racing Series (MARS) triumph on Sunday night at Spoon River Speedway.

“Wow, that’s all you can say about what our family-owned team was able to accomplish this weekend. We last went to the Show-Me 100 in 2017, and we didn’t even make the show. While we didn’t get the crown jewel win, we were a contender all weekend at Wheatland, and I was extremely proud of what we were able to achieve and the gains we made,” Sheppard said. “On Sunday night (at Spoon River) it took me a minute to get my right rear going there and to figure out exactly what line to run. I felt my tires start to come to me, and then I could really kinda maneuver pretty good and change up my line and really cut off the corner underneath them guys. From there I was able to wrap a great weekend up with a win.”

After Mother Nature shifted Thursday night’s event to Friday, Sheppard was one of 58 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on hand at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the opening round of the Lucas Oil Show-Me 100. After topping the speed charts in time trials to claim the Allstar Performance fast time honors, Sheppard locked into the A-Main with a heat race win. Rolling off on the pole, Brandon slipped three spots in the 45-lapper to register a fourth-place finish. He followed Tim McCreadie, Hudson O’Neal, and Bobby Pierce across the line with Josh Richards coming in fifth.

Later Friday evening for the Tribute to Don & Billie Gibson, Brandon posted a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Ryan Gustin, which positioned him 10th on the starting grid for the feature. With $6,000 on the line, Sheppard passed six cars in the 40-lapper to finish fourth. He trailed Josh Richards, Shane Clanton, and Chris Ferguson to the checkers with Kyle Bronson finishing fifth.

With his spot already locked into the $30,000-to-win Show-Me 100 presented by finale on Saturday night via his preliminary performances, Brandon mounted a late-race charge to the front of the field in the final 10 circuits but fell short at the line to finish second, trailing Hudson O’Neal. Josh Richards, Tim McCreadie, and Shane Clanton completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Sunday afternoon, Sheppard stopped at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.) for the MARS Racing Series presented by Rip-It Energy sanctioned event. Finishing second in his heat race behind Tanner English, Brandon locked into the fifth-starting position for the A-Main. Overtaking Tanner English for the lead on the ninth lap, Sheppard stormed to his fourth win of the season over Ryan Unzicker, Tanner English, Dennis Erb Jr., and Gordy Gundaker. He earned $5,000 for his fifth career MARS triumph.
