Brewerton, NY – The Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour returned to the Brewerton Speedway this past Friday night after losing the date in 2020 to the Covid pandemic. With the border restrictions still in effect it was quite a different DMNT that took the D Shaped Demon’s surface, with only one competitor that raced in 2019  in competition, Brad Litzenberger.

In the 12 lap combined Modified/Nostalgia class  feature Mike “The Hammer” Houghtaling of Liberty, NY would quickly jump out from his pole starting spot and look to capture his second feature in the Modified class. McGraw, NY’s “Wild Bill” Leonard and the J-West Express of Constantia, NY’s John West would have other plans however. Houghtaling and Leonard would swap the lead several times and West would join in the mix, at one point moving past Houghtaling as he would bottom feed around the implement tires for most of the race. Houghtaling would use the top of the track to sail by both West and Leonard with 2 to go but Leonard would charge right back on the bottom side of the Speedway to wrestle the lead away for good with one lap to go. Houghtaling would finish second with West third.

Brad Litzenberger would finish fourth in the race but claim his Nostalgia class, newcomer Ron Root would complete the top five.

In the Unlimited feature Mike Houghtaling would jump off the pole once again this time in the Bob Schmidt owned 333 and would cruise to victory. Kirkville, NY’s George Valenti would give chase but would have to settle for the runner up spot. All eyes were on the battle for third with John West pulling double duty and nipping Brewerton, NY native Joe August Jr. at the line for third, Modified winner Bill Leonard would round out the fast five.

The series moves on to Fulton Speedway this evening.

Pit notes: Tom Church and Duane Hiller DNF due to mechanical woes…Butch Leonard with issues in hot laps…John Pasteur towing 5 plus hours from south east PA… Litzenberger very fast, a new front end in the 36 machine…Joe August Jr. hoping in the 17g for the feature go…Mike Cole returning to Brewerton after many seasons…Wild Bill on a roll with 2 straight feature wins.
