Two of the final three events of the 2021 NLRA season are set to take place this weekend at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday night, and at the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo on Saturday night. Both races will be run alongside the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, while Saturday’s event will also honor Howie Schill, who we lost last December.

Two series races have been contested at River Cities this season, with Mike Greseth picking up the win in the No. 17 Quality Engines Rocket XR1 in on July 8th, while NLRA point leader Shane Edginton won on July 23rd in the No. 5E Performance Auto Sniper.

Greseth’s win was his second at the track this season, and fourth of now five in NLRA competition in his rookie season, as he also won the most recent series event last Sunday night at the Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, ND.

Edginton’s victory was his third of the year at River Cities, as he went three-for-four in July at the Speedway overall.

Feature winners in weekly competition at the Speedway include Lance Schill, won the opener on May 7th, and also on August 6th in the No. 17 Schill Construction MB Custom, while Dustin Strand won on May 14th, and last Friday night in the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium.

Brody Troftgruben won his first feature at the track on June 11th in the No. 14 Applegren Construction Rocket, and Joey Pederson picked up a win on June 18th in the Dahlstrom Motors No. 7P. Brad Seng also has a win at River Cities this season on July 30th in the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom.

On Saturday, the series heads to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo for the 12th time in series history, and will honor Howie Schill with his second memorial race of the season.

Howie was the series first ever feature winner at the Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg in 1998, and won the first River Cities points title the following year in 1999. Howie won three times with the series, and went on to race with and coach his son Cole through last September, when Cole became a back-to-back Stock Car Stampede Late Model champion at the Jamestown Speedway.

This event will also be the first appearance by the series at Red River Valley since 2018, when Brad Seng won the NLRA portion of the NLRA/WoO double header.

Seng and Dustin Strand lead all drivers with two series wins at Red River Valley. Cole Schill is the only other active series regular with a win at the track, as he won in 2016 in the Mid Ag Dispatch No. 44.

Shane Edginton will take a 26 point lead into the weekend over Mike Greseth. Brad Seng, Bryce Sward, driver of the No. 1-2 Klinder Processing MB Custom, and Cole Schill round out the current top five.

Kevin Robertson, who finished second last Sunday at Sheyenne in the H. Anderson Concrete No. 10R is sixth in the standings, with Cole Babcock seventh in the Casselton Lumber No. 2*, and Steve Anderson eighth in the No. 9 Pro Mark Services Club 28. Erik Robertson is ninth in the ACME Tools No. 9R, while Brody Troftgruben rounds out the top ten.

Racing begins around seven both nights after World of Outlaws qualifying. For more info on these events, visit rivercitiesspeedway.com and redrivervalleyspeedway.com
