Landon Huffman Sweeps the Twins at Hickory Motor Speedway

A beautiful Saturday would greet the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series as they would return to action at America’s Most Famous Short Track, Hickory Motor Speedway. 

The Heritage Finance Late Models would lead off the evening’s racing festivities with the first of their twin 40 lap features. Points leader Josh Kossek in the #44 would top qualifying and start from the pole position with Landon Huffman in the #75 to his outside. Row two would see Chase Dixon in the #07 and Paul Owens in the #54 side by side for the initial green flag. Kossek and Huffman would duel door to door until Huffman would nose into the lead. As Huffman would lead the battle would begin for second and become a three way battle between Kossek, Dixon, and Owens. Lap 15 would see Dixon move to 2nd and Owens to 3rd. Dixon and Owens would battle for the second spot over the next dozen laps. Lap 27 would see Owens take the spot and give chase to the leader Huffman. Huffman would prove too strong and drive on to the victory. Owens would take 2nd and Dixon would finish 3rd. Kossek would take 4th and Jansen Marchbanks in the #10 would finish 5th.

The Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Models would roll off next for 35 laps of racing action. Qualifying would see Bryson Ruff in the #24 fastest and starting from the top spot with Max Price in the #22 to his outside. Mason Maggio in the #12 and Josh Stark in the #32 would make up row two. Ruff would move to the early lead with Price close in tow. Maggio and Stark would settle in line with the first four nose to tail. Ruff would pull out to a comfortable lead and hang on to take the win. Price would take 2nd with Maggio grabbing 3rd. Stark would come home in 4th and Blake Shupe in the #30 finishing 5th.

The Renegades would pound the pavement next for 20 laps. The #6 of  Spencer Dickinson would pace qualifying and start from the point with Robbie Hollifield in the #51 to his outside. The #71 of Kyle DiVanna and the #83 of David Hasson would make up row two. Dickinson would move to the lead with DiVanna following him to second. David Hasson would follow Dickinson and DiVanna and move to third. DiVanna would move to Dickinson’s bumper and pressure for the top spot. Lap 6 would see DiVanna make the pass for the top spot. The caution would fly on lap 7 as David Hasson would spin in turn four. The restart would see DiVanna and Dickinson on the front row for the restart. DiVanna would pull to the lead with Dickinson giving chase. DiVanna would hang on and drive to the win. Dickinson would finish 2nd and Hollifield would take 3rd. Brandon Hasson in the #82 would finish 4th and David Hasson would grab 5th.

Next up would see the Heritage Finance Street Stocks hit the famed 3/8 mile oval for 30 laps of battle. Cody DeMarmels in the #12 would top qualifying and start from the pole position with Jesse Clark in the #5 to his outside. Row two would see Derek Fowler in the #31 and Ethan Johnson in the #2 side by side for the initial green flag. DeMarmels would pull to the lead with Clark giving chase. Fowler would run third while Jonathan Smith in the #16 would move to fourth. The front trio of DeMarmels, Clark, and Fowler would be nose to tail in the race for the top spot. DeMarmels would hang on and take the win. Clark would finish 2nd with Fowler grabbing 3rd. Smith would take 4th and Johnson would finish 5th.

The Super Trucks would roll off next for their 35 lap feature. Qualifying would see Allen Huffman in the #51 fastest, starting from the top spot and Joey Shuryan in the #30 to his outside. Travis Baity in the #70 and Duane Cook in the #17 would make up row two. The front row of Huffman and Shuryan would race side by side for the first five laps. Huffman would nose ahead to the lead on lap 6. The #77 of Jacob Weidman would work his way up to the lead battle and move to the top spot on lap 10. Shuryan would move back around for second while Huffman and Baity would battle for third. Lap 25 would see the caution fly as Huffman would spin on the backstretch. The restart would see Weidman and Shuryan door to door for the green flag. Weidman would move to the lead as Shuryan would face challenge from Baity. The caution would fly on lap 26 as contact would send Shuryan and Baity into each other and collect the wall. Huffman would make contact as they spun, but make quick repairs and return to the race. The race would restart with Weidman and the #17 of Duan Cook taking the green. Weidman would drive on to take the win. Huffman would finish 2nd with Cook finishing 3rd. Shuryan would end up 4th and Baity 5th.

The Heritage Finance Late Models would close out the evening’s action with race two of their twin 40 lap features. After a 5 car invert from the finishing order of race one Jansen Marchbanks in the #10 and Josh Kossek in the #44 would pace the field from row one. Row two would see Chase Dixon in the #07 and Paul Owens in the #54 making up row two. Marchbanks would move to the early lead with Owens in second. Lap 13 would see Landon Huffman in the #75 move to second. Huffman would pressure Marchbanks for the lead and move to the top spot on lap 17. Owens would follow Huffman and move to second. Huffman would drive on to the win, sweeping the pair of Heritage Finance Late Model features. Owens would take 2nd with Marchbanks grabbing 3rd. Dixon would finish 4th and Kossek would take 5th.

The NAAPWS will be back in action next week, May 8th, with a full slate of action.
