Mottville MI (8/21/21): The streak for first time winners continued, on a hot and humid Saturday evening at the Historic Mottville Speedway. Lenny Logan and Tyler Reading each scored their first wins of the season in Street Stocks and Outlaw FWDs, respectively while Brock Sweeter returned to victory lane in the Hornet class before another large crowd.

The Street Stock 15 lap main was light on cars but not on action. Lenny Logan led from his pole position and was never headed. However, a series of cautions at the halfway point slowed the action. At the finish, it was Logan taking the win in the Dowker Dispatch Chevy SS. Defending points champion came home in the runner-up position with Dominic Harker barely nipping Calvin Kelley at the line. Joe Gonzales rounded out the top five. Sturdivant topped the heat race over Kelley and Harker.

In the Hornet 20 lap main, Don Brown took command at the drop of the green and led til the halfway point when Jeff Odette hit the wall out of turn two. With the field tightened up, JJ Brooks moved into first after the restart. As the field saw the white flag, Brock Sweeter edged into the lead and scored his second feature win of the season. Brooks held on for second ahead of Zach Slaton and Eric Mepyans. Brown was next over Shane Barhydt, Ricky Trent and Corey Birk. Newcomer, Daniel Archer, Nathan Hulet, Odette and Julian Webster. JJ Brooks was victorious in the dash over Mepyans and Birk while Zach Slaton took heat one ahead of Odette and Hulet. Eric Mepyans won the second heat over Brooks and Sweeter.

The final race of the night was the Outlaw FWD 20 lapper. Scooter Bohnstedt led lap one until Fast Fred Garrett took over. Tyler Reading steadily moved through the field to take command on lap four and didn’t look back. Dillon Rose battled to take second ahead of last week’s winner, Robert Winrott and Dinah Jean. Danny Payne, Garrett and Gavin McGuffey were next with Travis Carteaux, Joe Lambright and Apryl Patterson, Bohnstedt and John Ray rounding out the field. Garrett beat out Carteaux and Lambright in the dash as McGuffey, Reading and Payne were the top 3 in heat one. Dinah Jean picked up the second heat win ahead of Garrett and Carteaux.

Next Saturday, August 28, features another 3 in 1 show of Street Stocks, Outlaw FWD and Hornets. Gates open at 5 pm with racing at 6. Coming up on Monday September 6, we will be hosting 30 lap mains for both the Outlaw FWD and Hornets, sponsored by Dinah Jean Racing and GFR Chassis. Also on tap will be the season championship for Street Stocks.
