SUNDAY NIGHT STOCK CAR RACES APPROVED FOR LUXEMBURG SPEEDWAY

Luxemburg Speedway

By: Warren Bluhm

The new promoters of the Luxemburg Speedway received approval of the Village Board to move stock car races to Sunday night this summer. All that remains is for the County Board to OK the contract Thursday night.

The County Board meets at 6 p.m. at the Administration Center, 810 Lincoln St., Kewaunee.

The rebranded ’Burg Speedway posted details on Facebook late Tuesday night:

The Kewaunee County Racing Association (K.C.R.A.) met with the village board in Luxemburg tonight and there were no objections from the board members on the track running Sunday nights. We will be meeting with the Kewaunee County board this Thursday night but the county has already said they are fine with Sunday night racing at the fairgrounds we will be there to answer any questions the board or community might have.

We will be rebranding the track as “The ‘Burg Speedway” to emphasis a new night and a new start for the track.

We will have a table at the racing show in Luxemburg on Feb. 8th and will be available for any questions. We will also look to have a few other meetings over the next month to get feedback from drivers, fans, and sponsors on what they would like to see.

Weather permitting we will open the season with a practice on May 10th with racing to start the following week with our first show on May 17th. We have a 12 race schedule that will be published within a few days. Racing will begin at 5:00 with the goal of having racing completed by 9:00 at the latest. We want to run a fast paced show and get drivers, fans, and crews home at a reasonable hour and be respectful of our neighbors in Luxemburg. We currently plan to run 5 classes weekly consisting of IMCA sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, and Sport mods as well as the Street Stocks running under the Unified Dirt Street Stock Rules and 4 Cylinders running a rules package similar to other area tracks.

In the coming weeks there will be more information presented including an introduction to the group. For now we would like to thank everyone that stepped forward to offer words of encouragement and advice during the planning stages of this whole endeavor. We appreciate each and every offer of help and kind word that has been directed our way and we look forward to hosting you all on Sunday nights this summer!
