Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 15, 2021) – Marshall Skinner is hoping to get his racing misfortune behind him following a frustrating beginning to his 31st season of driving a sprint car.

The veteran driver has displayed speed in a pair of visits to Arkansas ovals early this season only to have it culminate in disappointing results.

“It’s been a tough start to the year,” he said. “My first night I had to start last in the B Main and the second night I had to pull in late in the race while running second in the A Main.”

Skinner opened his season at his home track – Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis – on April 3. He started seventh and crossed the finish line third in his heat race.

“I found out after the heat race that my transponder had fallen off, apparently during hot laps, so I was disqualified,” he said. “So instead of starting in the third row of the A Main I had to start last in the B Main.

“I went from 14th to finish sixth in the B Main and was one lap from a transfer spot into the A Main. It was a 12-lap race, so I was pretty much passing a car every two laps on a one-lane track around the bottom, which isn’t fun. I just ran out of laps.”

Skinner then traveled to I-30 Speedway last Saturday. A charge from fifth to second in his heat race earned him the third starting spot in the night’s main event.

“Howard Moore was leading and I was second,” he said. “We were about half a track ahead of everyone else. Then with about four laps to go my fuel started leaking. It sprayed all over me and I had to pull in.”

Skinner, who was credited with a 15th-place result, will regroup and plans to race this Saturday.

“I’m hoping to race at Jackson Motor Speedway (in Byram, Miss.) with the ASCS Mid-South Region as long as the weather allows,” he said.

This season Skinner will race when his busy schedule allows.

“This is the busiest I’ve ever been, so I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to race,” he said. “I have a full-time job and a busy side job, plus my boys are racing go-karts. I’m kind of a one-man racing operation. We’ll just see how things go.”
