Salem Speedway fueled by the Hoosier Lottery is pleased to announce that Josh Turner, of Paoli, Ind., has been named the Official Starter & Flagman for the 2020 season.

Turner, who flagged the Bandit Big Rig Series event at Salem in 2019, is a veteran on the flagstand, having served in the same capacity at Thunder Valley Raceway, Twin Cities Raceway Park, Brownstown Speedway and Wayne County (IL) Speedway, to name a few.

“It’s going to be a huge honor to flag at Salem Speedway,” said Turner. “I’ve never flagged stock cars on a pavement oval before. Salem Speedway is iconic in racing circles across the country, so I feel super grateful for this opportunity. I’m glad that Salem has given me this chance and hopefully I’ll be flagging at Salem for many seasons to come.”

There’s more good news. Turner, originally from Mount Vernon, Illinois, and his wife Lakasia just received news that they are expecting their third child.

“We just found out Sunday,” Turner said. “We’ve got two girls, 4 and 2, so I’m kinda hoping for a boy, but either way we’re excited and blessed.

“Looking forward to attending the banquet coming up.”

The 2020 race season kicks off with the 107th running of the ARCA Menards Series April 17-18-19, culminating with the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 200 Sunday afternoon. The Lucas Oil Great American Stocks will also be competing in a 50-lap feature prior to Sunday’s ARCA race.

Speedway officials are currently putting the final touches on the 2020 racing schedule and expect to release it soon. The next event for Salem Speedway is the Championship Awards Banquet at the American Legion Post in Salem, Indiana Saturday night, January 25. Tickets, available to anyone/everyone at $20 each, can be reserved by calling Jasemine Hurst at 812-896-4994. Each ticket includes a full dinner, beer, top-10 awards & trophies and the chance to win door prizes. A cash bar will also be available.

The 2020 racing season unofficially opens Saturday, March 28 with Test & Tune for the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks.
