Travis Blotz drove his way to victory lane Saturday night as a fitting way to end the night in honor of Gary Atchison.

“This one’s for Gary,” Travis Nichols said after winning the Street Stock 25. Blotz honored Atchison earlier in the night with a d43 decal on the roof of his No. 7 race car and a special tribute lap with the thin blue line flag. Before Atchison died while vacationing in the Florida Keys in June, the retired Citrus County Sheriff’s Office detective played a pivotal role throughout and the local and national race scene as a former track security officer, Full Throttle TV show host, and pit crew member to numerous NASCAR and ARCA series drivers.

Blotz started ninth of 15 competitors and quickly made his way through the field before being stalled by a battle for second place between Joe Girard and Austin Dinkins. As that contest developed a window of opportunity opened and he was able to drive through the pair in turn No. 3.

Caution came on lap No. 8 and Blotz found himself outside of early race leader Peanut Waller on the restart.

By the next lap the pair were side-by-side at the line with Blotz in the lead.

The lead was only temporary though and Blotz found himself in the back of the field after being collected by race leader Peanut Waller.

“We were coming off the corner and I’m sure what happened,” Blotz said. “All I felt was (a hard nudge) and the left rear went flying into the infield. I’m not sure if something broke on his car or what.”

By lap No. 12 Blotz was back up to third where he would remain for another six laps before he was able to pass Dinkins on the low side as they exited the second turn and immediately set his sights on Gerard.

“I knew I had to hurry up to get to him,” Blotz said. “I knew the laps were closing down. I had to be patient and not do anything crazy, and then wait for the opportunity to get around him.

That opportunity came two laps later when Blotz dropped to the low side of Girard’s No. 51 and cleared the race leader as they drove out of turn No. 2.

From there, Blotz was able to drive his way to the lead and eventual win.

“It meant a lot for us, and for me,” Blotz said. “It was really cool, especially having Gary’s family there. That was an honor.”

Gerard, Dinkins rounded out the top three. Cody Struble, who raced for the first time in the Street Stock division, finished fourth. Mark Patterson was fifth.

In other race action, Herb Neumann Jr. led all but one lap to win the Open Wheel Modified 50.

Brad Bowman, the events’ only other leader finished second ahead of Richie Smith, Bruce Bennett Jr., and Donny Duchesne, respectively.

Brennon Pletcher topped the Pro Truck division. Becca Monopoli beat Chase King to the finish for second. Sammy Coghill followed the pair fourth, Bryton Horner fifth.

Sport Wilson held off Jason Waller to win the Signsfast Pure Stock 25. It was the second time in as many events that Waller has been denied a trip to victory lane. Rounding out the top five included Kenner Brown third, Wesley Rounds fourth, and Larry Welter Jr. fifth.

The Crockett’s Towing Ford Outlaw 25 saw 26 of 34 competitors make the A-main after three qualifying heats and a B-main. In the end it was Jonathan Wallace with a 1.103 second advantage over Shawn Senokossoff at the line. Jesse Veltman beat out Kevin Durden for third. Kris Rummel finished fifth.
